Is insurance Biblical

I often grapple whether to get insurance; or if to do so demonstrates a lack of faith. If something is not mentioned in the Word of God, then I must draw from the principles and teaching of the whole testimony of Scripture. After studying all applicable scriptural principles, I come to the conviction we are to take care of ourselves. We must plan ahead for the future. This speaks of saving for future needs such as clothes, college, and complications.

Life insurance can be viewed from different perspectives;
as a lack of faith,
as a love of money,
as prudent planning,
wise stewardship
God certainly advocates planning ahead. Hebrews 11:6 states that without faith, it is impossible to please Him.

Nowhere in God’s Word are we promised “a rose garden” where every thing is hunky-dory; free from disasters and difficulties. Carrying right levels of insurance is a means of saving for future needs, a principle emphasized in the Bible. Proverbs 6:6-8 (King James Version) “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest”

Carrying liability insurance coverage helps to curb the financial impact on all parties involved.
We are required by law certain other forms of insurance in personal and business affairs. Mortgage companies require home buyers to purchase fire and natural disaster insurance. Carrying liability insurance coverage helps to curb the financial impact on all parties involved.

Christ stated, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 19:19; Mark 12:31). Carrying proper insurance is a vital part of living by these principles that Christ taught.
1Timothy 5:8, states clearly if we want to minister to others; let us start with our own families. It also makes it clear that men have a responsibility to take care of the physical needs past, present, and future of their families.

The story of Joseph and his wise planning not only saved the pagan nation of Egypt but also the people of Israel and the lineage of Christ (Genesis 41).

Through insurance, we make provision for our families’ future well-being, should we die or become disabled.
II Corinthians 12:14,
I Timothy 5:8
Proverbs 13:22.

Responsibilities to others; God’s Word clearly shows, we are responsible for compensating those adversely affected, by our actions. In Exodus chapters 21 and 22 we find clear guidelines.

The bottom line is we must study the Word of God and call out to Him asking what He would have us do in this and all areas of life. This is the real question, “Will this please my Father in heaven?”
James 4:17 makes it clear that if we have a chance to do well, we not only should but must or else we sin. The context there is talking about planning and the future.
